The ETIAS process is designed to be fast, simple, and fully online. It works very differently from a Schengen visa — there are no embassy visits, no documents, and no interviews.
Here’s how the ETIAS application works 👇
🧾 1. Complete an online application form
You can apply through the official ETIAS website or app (launching in 2025).
You will enter basic information such as:
• Full name
• Passport details
• Travel plans
• Contact information
• Background/security questions
It takes about 10 minutes to complete.
🛂 2. Upload nothing — no documents required
Unlike a Schengen visa, ETIAS does not require:
• Bank statements
• Accommodation proof
• Flight bookings
• Cover letter
• Insurance (still required for travel, but not for ETIAS approval)
It is an automated pre-screening system.
💳 3. Pay the ETIAS fee
The cost of ETIAS will be €7 for travellers aged 18 to 70.
Travellers under 18 or over 70 will not have to pay the fee.
Payment must be made by credit or debit card.
⚡ 4. Receive your ETIAS by email
Most applications are approved within:
• A few minutes, or
• A few hours, depending on security checks
In rare cases, additional manual review may take up to 4 days.
The ETIAS will be sent electronically — nothing is pasted into your passport. The airline will verify it before boarding.
🛫 5. Use your ETIAS for multiple trips
Once approved, your ETIAS is valid for:
• 3 years, or
• Until your passport expires
You can enter the Schengen Area multiple times, staying up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
