QnA Schengen Visa
December 06, 2025
Does the visa fee differ based on the applicant's age (e.g., for children)?
Yes — the Schengen visa fee does differ based on age.
Children pay a lower fee, and younger children may be fully exempt.
Here’s the breakdown in simple terms 👇
👶 1. Children under 6 years old — FREE
There is no Schengen visa fee for children aged 0 to 5.
Parents still need to submit the full application, but the embassy fee is waived.
👧 2. Children aged 6 to 12 — Reduced fee
Children between 6 and 12 years old pay a reduced visa fee.
This is significantly lower than the adult fee.
👩🦰 3. Applicants 12 and above — Full adult fee
From age 12 onwards, travellers pay the full Schengen visa fee, regardless of purpose (tourism, business, visiting family, etc.).
🧾 Important notes
✔️ Service fees still apply
Even if the embassy fee is reduced or waived, the VFS/TLS service fee must still be paid.
✔️ Fee exemptions may apply
Certain groups (students on official trips, researchers, teachers accompanying minors) may receive additional exemptions.
✔️ Fees are non-refundable
The embassy fee is not returned even if the visa is refused.
Outbound Singapore checks all applicable exemptions so you never pay more than needed.
💡 Outbound Singapore Tip
When applying as a family, we calculate the exact fees for each member and ensure all supporting documents for minors are correctly prepared — especially consent forms, birth certificates, and travel permissions.
