Where can I apply for a Schengen visa in Singapore?
You can apply for a Schengen visa in Singapore through the embassy, consulate, or visa application centre responsible for your main destination. If you are visiting only one Schengen country, apply through that country. If you are visiting several Schengen countries, apply through the country where you will spend the longest time. If the stay length is equal, apply through the country you will enter first.
The European Commission says Schengen visa applicants should apply at the consulate of the country they intend to visit. If they visit more than one Schengen country, they should apply at the consulate of the country where they will spend the longest time. If the stay is equal, they should apply at the consulate of the first Schengen country they will visit.
Do not book the fastest or easiest appointment if it is not the correct country for your trip. Applying through the wrong Schengen country can weaken or delay your application.
First, check if you need a Schengen visa
Not everyone applying from Singapore needs a Schengen visa.
Some travelers living in Singapore have passports that allow visa free short stays in the Schengen Area. Others, including many Employment Pass, Student Pass, Dependant Pass, Work Permit, or Long Term Visit Pass holders, may need a Schengen visa depending on their nationality.
Before checking visa centres, confirm:
Your passport nationality
Your Singapore residence status
Your main Schengen destination
Your travel dates
Whether you are applying for tourism, business, family visit, study, or another purpose
Where you live affects where you submit. Your passport nationality affects whether you need a visa.
If you are still checking whether your profile is ready, you can use Outbound’s Free Visa Chance Checker to review your visa profile before booking an appointment.
How to choose the correct Schengen country
The most important step is not choosing VFS, BLS, or the embassy first.
The first step is choosing the correct Schengen country.
If you visit one Schengen country
Apply through that country.
Example:
If your whole trip is in France, apply through France.
If you visit several Schengen countries
Apply through the country where you will spend the most time.
Example:
If you spend 4 nights in Germany and 8 nights in Italy, apply through Italy.
If your stay is equal in several countries
Apply through the first Schengen country you enter.
Example:
If you spend 4 nights in France and 4 nights in Spain, and your first Schengen entry is France, apply through France.
France Visas gives the same rule for France: apply through France if France is your only destination, your primary destination in terms of duration or purpose, or your first Schengen entry when no main destination can be identified.
Your first entry country only matters as a tie breaker when there is no clear main destination.
If you are unsure whether your itinerary supports the country you selected, Outbound’s Schengen visa itinerary sample can help you compare your travel dates, hotel bookings, and route before you submit.
Schengen visa centres and embassies in Singapore
The exact submission point depends on the Schengen country. Some countries use VFS Global, some use BLS International, and some allow or require embassy involvement in certain cases.
Always check the official country page before going, because addresses, appointment systems, and submission rules can change.
Main destination | Where to apply in Singapore | Notes |
|---|---|---|
France | VFS Global Singapore | France Visas lists VFS Global as the application centre. The Singapore VFS visa centre moved to Haw Par Centre, 180 Clemenceau Avenue, Unit 05-03, from 2 June 2026. |
Austria | VFS Global through France route | The Austrian Embassy says Austrian Schengen Visa C applications are issued by the Embassy of France in Singapore and handled through the VFS application centre in Singapore. |
Germany | VFS Global Singapore | The German Embassy says Schengen visa applications can only be handed in at the German Visa Application Centre operated by VFS Global at Haw Par Centre, 180 Clemenceau Avenue, #05-03. |
Portugal | VFS Global Singapore | The Portuguese Embassy says visa requests are submitted through VFS Global. A VFS Portugal relocation notice says the Schengen Visa Application Centre moved from 79 Anson Road to Haw Par Centre, 180 Clemenceau Avenue, #05-03, from 2 June 2026. |
Spain | BLS Spain Visa Application Centre | BLS Spain Singapore lists its address as Unit 30-08, International Plaza, 10 Anson Road, Singapore 079903. |

Where to apply for France, Austria, Germany, and Portugal
Many applicants in Singapore are sent to VFS Global for these countries, but not every country uses the exact same booking page or process.
France
For France, start with France Visas. France Visas says applicants in Singapore use the VFS Global Centre in Singapore and lists the centre relocation to Haw Par Centre from 2 June 2026.
Before booking, you usually need to complete the France Visas online form first. VFS Global’s France Singapore page says applicants must fill the visa application form online on the official France Visas website before booking an appointment.
Austria
For Austria short stay Schengen visas, the Austrian Embassy in Singapore says Schengen Visa C applications are issued by the Embassy of France in Singapore. It also says applications for Austrian visas are handled by the VFS application centre in Singapore, and appointments and information are through the VFS France website.
This is a good example of why applicants should not assume the embassy name and visa centre provider are always obvious.
Germany
For Germany, the German Embassy in Singapore says Schengen visa applications can only be handed in at the German Visa Application Centre operated by VFS Global at Haw Par Centre, 180 Clemenceau Avenue, #05-03, 5th floor, Singapore 239922. It also says an appointment is required.
Portugal
For Portugal, the Portuguese Embassy in Singapore says visa requests are submitted through VFS Global and that only applications from legal residents, such as NRIC card, Permanent Resident card, Employment Pass, Dependant Pass, or Student Pass holders valid for at least 6 months, will be accepted.
A VFS Portugal notice says the Schengen Visa Application Centre moved from 79 Anson Road to Haw Par Centre, 180 Clemenceau Avenue, #05-03, from 2 June 2026.
If you see an old 79 Anson Road address on an embassy page, check the country specific VFS page before going. Some VFS Schengen centres in Singapore have moved.
Where to apply for Spain and Italy
Spain and Italy use BLS International in Singapore.
Spain
BLS Spain Singapore says its visa application centre provides information on how to apply for a Schengen visa to travel to Spain as the main country of destination.
The BLS Spain contact page lists the Singapore address as Unit 30-08, International Plaza, 10 Anson Road, Singapore 079903, near Tanjong Pagar MRT. It also lists application submission and document collection timings.
Italy
BLS Italy Singapore says it is managed by BLS International Services Ltd. and is authorised by the Embassy of Italy in Singapore to collect visa applications.
The BLS Italy contact page lists Unit 30-08, International Plaza, 10 Anson Road, Singapore 079903 as the BLS Italy Visa Application Centre address.
If Spain or Italy is your main destination, do not book a VFS appointment for another country just because it has earlier slots.
Where to apply for Switzerland
For Switzerland, the Embassy of Switzerland in Singapore says applicants in Singapore apply at VFS Global, Joint Visa Application Centre, 135 Cecil Street, #08-01, Philippine Airlines Building, Singapore 069536.
The Swiss Embassy also explains that applicants should contact VFS Global for appointments, and it lists VFS contact details for Singapore. It says a visa application can be submitted at the earliest 3 months and at the latest 15 working days before the scheduled journey.
The Swiss page also notes that applicants who do not wish to submit through VFS Global may continue to submit directly at the Embassy, but an appointment through VFS Global is still necessary. Family members of Swiss citizens may also submit directly at the Embassy, with an appointment.
What documents should you check before booking?
Before booking the appointment, check that your application is going to the correct country and that your documents match that country’s checklist.
Prepare:
Passport
Singapore residence pass if applicable
Schengen visa application form
Appointment confirmation
Travel itinerary
Flight reservation or travel plan
Hotel bookings or host invitation
Travel insurance
Bank statements
Employment, business, student, or sponsor documents
Previous Schengen visas if relevant
Passport photo
Country specific checklist
If you are still reviewing your file, Outbound’s Schengen visa requirements guide explains the main documents applicants usually need before submitting a Schengen visa application.
Common mistakes when choosing where to apply in Singapore
Booking the fastest appointment, not the correct country
A faster slot is not helpful if it is with the wrong Schengen country.
If your main destination is Italy, you should not apply through Germany just because the German appointment is earlier.
Confusing first entry with main destination
Many applicants think they must apply through the first Schengen country they enter.
That is only true when there is no clear main destination or when the stay length is equal.
The country where you spend the longest time usually matters more than the first airport you land in.
Using an old visa centre address
Some visa centre addresses change. For example, France Visas and VFS notices show Singapore Schengen visa centre relocations from Anson Road to Haw Par Centre in June 2026.
Check the official provider page before going to your appointment.
Not checking legal residence requirements
Some embassies or providers only accept applications from people legally resident in Singapore or nearby jurisdictions covered by that office.
For example, the Portuguese Embassy in Singapore says only applications from legal residents with valid NRIC, PR, Employment Pass, Dependant Pass, or Student Pass for at least 6 months will be accepted.
Assuming every Schengen country uses VFS
Not every Schengen country uses VFS in Singapore. Spain and Italy use BLS International.
Not matching the form with the itinerary
Your application form should match the country you choose.
If you say France is the main destination but your hotel bookings show more nights in Spain, your file may look inconsistent.
Outbound’s Schengen visa application form checklist can help you check your form details before submission.
Simple examples
Example 1: France only
You are traveling to Paris and Nice for 10 days.
Apply through France, because France is the only Schengen destination.
Example 2: Germany and Italy
You will spend 3 nights in Germany and 7 nights in Italy.
Apply through Italy, because Italy is the longest stay.
Example 3: France and Spain with equal nights
You will spend 5 nights in France and 5 nights in Spain. Your first Schengen entry is Paris.
Apply through France, because the stay length is equal and France is the first Schengen entry.
Example 4: Austria from Singapore
Austria is your main destination.
In Singapore, Austrian Schengen Visa C applications are issued by the Embassy of France and handled through the VFS application centre, according to the Austrian Embassy.

Apply through the country you will visit. If you visit several Schengen countries, apply through the country where you will spend the longest time. If the stay length is equal, apply through the first Schengen country you enter.
Can I apply through the country with the fastest appointment?
No. You should apply through the correct Schengen country based on your itinerary. Booking the fastest appointment with the wrong country can create problems or lead to rejection.

Before you book your appointment
Before booking a Schengen visa appointment in Singapore, check your itinerary first.
Choose the country based on your main destination, not the appointment provider. Then check the official embassy, VFS, or BLS page for the latest address, appointment rules, fees, document checklist, and collection process.
If your itinerary is unclear, fix that before booking. Your form, hotel bookings, travel insurance, financial proof, and visa centre appointment should all point to the same trip.
You can also use Outbound’s Free Visa Chance Checker to review your visa profile before submitting your application.
